Mauchline Holy Fair organisers are gearing up for what they call "the biggest event yet" with some slight changes made to this year's proceedings.

Three event stages and more than 70 stalls will feature at this year's day-long celebration, which takes place on Saturday, May 25.

The current Mauchline Holy Fair group have been in charge of organising the event since taking over from the Mauchline Burns Club in 2014.

Cumnock Chronicle:

This year's event will kick off with a bumper procession which will begin at Mauchline Fire Station at 10.45am, before making its way along Kilmarnock Road and Loudoun Street before stopping at the main stage area.

More than a year's worth of support from grant funding, fund-raising events - and the tireless efforts of the Holy Fair's army of volunteers have gone into creating the standout day in Mauchline's calendar.

Robert Burns wrote about the Holy Fair of 1786 in his poem of the same name, and while more than 200 years may have passed since then, the event remains as popular as ever.

Once again, thousands of people are expected to be in Mauchline throughout the duration of the day.

Cumnock Chronicle:

Event manager Jack Lynch said: "We haven't got to that stage of being able to look forward to it.

"So much work goes into this every year and the turnout of people always makes it worth it.

"Everything is ticking along nicely and things are starting to progress nicely for what we think will be the biggest event yet."

Cumnock Chronicle:

Jack added: "Normally the parade is just a short distance to the car park, but this year I wanted to make it bigger.

"We're starting it at the fire station just to give more people a chance to join in and just to build up the atmosphere for the whole day.

"We've also got actors going around on the day as characters from various Robert Burns poems and parts of his life.

"There will be other things on the day that will be a surprise to me as well, but we're all really excited to see how everything comes together again".

The dedicated Mauchline Holy Fair website has loads of information about the day, as does the Facebook page.
