The closure of the final bank branch in Cumnock has been pushed back once again.

Bank bosses announced last year that the Townhead Street branch would close, following a review of how people bank nowadays.

Lloyds Banking Group, which owns the Bank of Scotland, says the decision has been taken because the number of customers at the branch is falling.

An initial closure date had been set for February 12, 2024, but that was later pushed back until May 29.

Now, another delay has meant the closure is set to take place on Wednesday, June 26.

In a text message to customers, Bank of Scotland said the latest delay was to give more time for a planned banking hub to open in the area.

When making the decision to close the Cumnock branch, Bank of Scotland said it spoke with the town's MP and MSP, local councillors and East Ayrshire Citizens Advice Bureau to understand the affect the close would have.

Feedback included customers being disappointed that there would be no physical branch in the local community.

Elena Whitham MSP signed a joint letter raising concerns about the impact on vulnerable customers from this closure, and others across Scotland.

Bank of Scotland bosses responded to this and arranged a meeting in Holyrood for all the MSPs and the company aimed to address these concerns.

The bank's free-to-use cash machine is also set to be removed, with the nearest machines being located at Asda and outside of Scotmid on Glaisnock Street.
