A MAN has appeared in court charged with stabbing another man with a pair of scissors in Auchinleck.
Adrian McGhee pleaded not guilty to a charge of serious assault when he appeared at Ayr Sheriff Court.
The 47-year-old is accused of repeatedly punching the complainer on the head, causing him to fall to the ground in an incident the Crown alleges happened in Sorn Road on June 3, 2023.
The Crown’s indictment claims that Mr McGhee then pinned the other man to the ground and that he again repeatedly punched him on the head before allegedly repeatedly striking him with a pair of scissors or similar implement.
The prosecution claims the victim of the alleged attack was severely injured and permanently disfigured as a result.
Mr McGhee, whose address was listed in court documents as care of HMP Addiewell, denies the allegation.
Robert Logan, defending, told a brief court hearing that his client intended to lodge a special defence of self-defence to the accusation.
Mr McGhee will return to court to face the allegation at a later date.
All accused persons reported in the Chronicle are considered innocent unless they are later found or admit to being guilty.
