Cumnock's Citizen of the Year for 2023 has been announced.
David Perriman has been named as the top citizen for the past year, following years of work within the community.
Following an excellent number of worthy nominations, the Keir McTurk Committee decided that David, from Cumnock, should be recognised for his tireless work.
David said: "This came as a complete surprise to me.
"I think it was someone in the Rotary club and someone from Netherthird who nominated me and I had no idea about it.
"You don't expect to be highlighted for these things because that's not the reason you do it, but it's really nice to be recognised like this.
"I'm grateful to be named because I'm sure there were loads of of worthy candidates."
David spent 26 years in Army, during which time he had postings in the likes of Belgium, Norway, Sardinia and Cyprus.
Originally from Surrey, David's final posting landed him in Glasgow.
Following this, David said he drew a circle around Glasgow on a map to look for where to live, and this is how ended up in Cumnock- where has now lived for over 30 years.
David joined Cumnock Rotary Club in 2004, where has been secretary for the past 18 years.
Along with this, David took on the role of treasurer at the Netherthird Community Centre around six years ago and has helped there on a voluntary basis ever since.
Not settling there, the 77-year-old also helps out with the Cumnock Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club, which meets in the Royal Hotel on the last Saturday of the month from 10am-12pm.
Colin Chisholm, Chairman of the Keir McTurk Memorial Committee which selects the winner, added: "David was one of several worthy people nominated and it took some serious deliberation before a final decision was made.
"He has been secretary of Cumnock and District Rotary Club for about 15 years and is also an integral part of Netherthird Initiative for Communities Empowerment.
"Taking all the nominations into account it was the committee's decision that David was a worthy Citizen of the Year for 2023."
