A Cumnock-based company has been added to a major development supply chain.

Connect Modular, part of the Wee House Group, has been named as a contractor on Hub South East’s Tier 1B supply chain, and is the only offsite construction firm to be listed.

Modular construction takes the home-building process offsite and into a controlled factory environment.

Connect Modular houses are constructed in modules inside its manufacturing facility in Caponacre, Cumnock where they are fitted out with kitchens, bathrooms, plumbing and electrics before being delivered to site.

Arriving on site, the modules are craned into position and made wind and watertight on the same day.

The homes can be ready for occupancy in a matter of weeks, with only the final 10 per cent of external works left to be completed.

One of the notable advantages of this modern construction method is its environmental sustainability – there is much less waste compared to traditional building methods, while 67 per cent less energy is required to produce a modular building.

Acting CEO of Connect Modular, Richard Reid said: “We are delighted to form this partnership with Hub South East.

"As the development partner of choice for public sector projects in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Borders, the hub’s geographical scope is extensive.

"This appointment increases our scope to demonstrate the efficiency of our modular construction method and how it can support the delivery of high quality, affordable houses.

“We are already working in partnership on some exciting developments and this is just the beginning of what we hope will be a long ad successful partnership with Hub South East."

Connect Modular was chosen last year as one of only 10 firms in the whole of Scotland on a 'public sector framework' for the delivery of affordable homes.

The Wee House Group celebrated 10 years in business in June 2023 and received a visit two months later from Scottish housing minister Paul McLennan to find out more about a partnership between Connect Modular and Cunninghame Housing Association, marking the handover of the first of 101 new modular homes in Kilmarnock.

The firm, which became a member of the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations in September, recently completed a development of new energy-conscious homes in Stevenston for North Ayrshire Council, replacing a previous sheltered housing complex in the town.
