The Cumnock Tryst has launched its first ever residential summer school, with applications opening this week.
The popular festival, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, has opened applications today (Monday, January 22) for the intensive course.
Applications are open worldwide to aspiring talented composers between the ages of 18 and 30.
The eight successful applicants will get the rare opportunity to work one-to-one with Tryst founder and artistic director Sir James MacMillan and composer Anna Thorvaldstottir.

The summer school will be run at Dumfries House between August 4 and August 10.
It will open with an evening introduction from James and Anna for all participants and the general public.
They will discuss their own work and their approach to composition, and encourage a dialogue with those attending.
The week will culminate in a public performance at Dumfries House on the last day of the course, when a professional ensemble will bring to life the work of the young composers.
All participants will be asked to bring a partly completed work for violin, viola, cello plus contrabass clarinet or bass Clarinet for four musicians in total.
Participants will also be required to bring their own manuscript, pencils or other writing materials and a laptop if required.
The application process is open until 5pm on Friday, February 23. For more information or to apply, visit the Cumnock Tryst website.
