Train journeys to and from Auchinleck and New Cumnock have resumed following issues caused by heavy flooding during Storm Gerrit.
ScotRail services on the Glasgow-Carlisle route, via Kilmarnock and Dumfries, had been delayed or cancelled since Wednesday morning.
The issue had also been affecting Sanquhar and Kirkconnel stations, with shuttle buses running between Kilmarnock and Dumfries.
Network Rail Scotland said on Friday morning that the Dumfries to Kilmarnock line required "route proving" to ensure it is safe.
And the line reopened at lunchtime on Friday.
UPDATE 12:28 - Train services between Glasgow Central and Carlisle via Dumfries are returning to normal following successful line safety inspections. Check your service on our app, website or at https://t.co/J1m2Dni8ue

However, with a Met Office weather warning in place for heavy rain in the south-west of Scotland on Saturday, December 30, there's a chance journeys by public transport in the area may be affected again.
