MUIRKIRK darts maestro Cameron Menzies is hoping that it's his name, rather than that of his girlfriend, that will be on the lips of darts fans at this year's World Championships at Alexandra .
Menzies' partner Fallon Sherrock has been dubbed the 'Queen of the Palace' after becoming the first female player to win a match.
Menzies told the Chronicle he knows Sherrock will win the fight for 'bragging rights' at this year's tournament, "no matter what".
But the 34-year-old said he will be content - as long as she buys the Chinese takeaway after their matches.
Menzies, currently ran ked number 63 in the world, will be hoping for much more than a good meal as he looks to better his performance at the 2022 event.
He made it to the second round time out, loosing out to Vincent van der Voort in his first-ever appearance at darts' premier competition after he defeated Diogo Portela.
He earned his spot at the Worlds after earning his PDC tour card for the first time in 2022 and performing admirably across players events throughout the year.
He matched that standard during the course of 2023 - and is now looking to prove he has what it takes to perform on the biggest of stages.
"I'm excited and nervous at same time," he told the Chronicle.
"I mean, it's the biggest tourney of the year.
"It's a great buzz, especially as I am a fan and I never thought would get to play there."
Cammy has proved throughout the season that he can match the best, picking up wins across a legs format.
And while he appreciates that the set format of the Worlds offers a tougher test, he is still hoping he can provide some shocks.
"It's new to me," he added.
"I'm not used to this format, so I will need to learn fast and hopefully get my finger out.
"I just need to find a bit of form, be clinical and get my timing right.
"My form has been up and down all season - just my usual darts to be honest. I'll need to see how they go on the day.
"Hopefully I win a game and see where we go from there. I hope I have what it takes to cause a shock in this format.
"I keep trying. I've not done great yet but had some good performances over the season, but need to be more consistent."
The World Championships begin on Friday, December 15, with Cammy beginning his campaign against 83rd ranked player Rusty-Jake Rodriguez in the first round.
The match will be played during the evening session - starting at 7pm - on the tournament's opening day, with the winner facing Dave Chisnall during the afternoon session the following day.
Sherrock, meanwhile, will face Jermaine Wattinema of the Netherlands in round one, with Germany's Martin Schindler awaiting the winner.
