A FOOTBRIDGE near a Cumnock supermarket has been closed after suffering "significant damage" during recent bad weather, council chiefs say.
Heavy flooding along the nearby river caused the Asda store to temporarily close last week.
The effect of the flooding could be seen in the supermarket's car park, with branches and debris being washed in from the river.
Now it appears that the weather has had a knock-on effect, with the closure of the footbridge connecting to Greenholm Road and Rothesay house.
Fencing has been set up around the bridge on both sides, with "significant" damage being caused, as a result of the heavy rain.
Access is restricted, with repair work set to take place. Although, no official date has been set for this.
A spokesperson for the Ayrshire Roads Alliance, which operates the roads on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, said: "The Ayrshire Roads Alliance can confirm that the footbridge was significantly damaged as a result of the flooding experienced last week.
"Repairs to the bridge will take place as soon as possible."
