A MAJOR wind farm development in the Doon Valley has been sold - just months after it was inaugurated.
Greencoat UK Wind plc announced on Friday that it had completed the acquisition of the South Kyle wind farm from Vattenfall Wind Power Ltd - more than three years since the purchase was first revealed.
Greencoat UK Wind is a London-based renewable infrastructure fund, focused on UK wind farms.
The acquisition was first announced in April 2020, when Greencoat said it had bought the development for £320 million.
The wind farm is located near Dalmellington, on the boundary of East Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.
The wind farm was inaugurated in June and was Vattenfall's largest onshore wind development in the UK.
The 50th and final turbine on the site was installed in April, 10 months after work began on the site.
The wind farm's inauguration in June also kicked off the operation of a 'community fund' which it's estimated will see around £38 million spent on supporting people and groups in the Doon Valley area over the development's 25-year lifespan.
Vattenfall unveiled plans in early 2022 for a 'South Kyle II' wind farm, comprising up to 17 turbines with a generating capacity of up to 119 megawattts (MW) - though those were later revised downwards to a maximum of nine turbines capable of generating up to 67MW.
