The future of a bowling club near Patna has been secured thanks to a community benefit fund.

Dunaskin Doon Bowling Club had been up for sale for a number of months, meaning its future was uncertain.

However, thanks to funding from South Kyle Windfarm's Community Benefit Fund, and support from Dalmellington Parish Development Trust, the club has been saved for generations to come.

The club has been brought into community ownership, and is aiming to add to its 140 years of history.

South Kyle Wind Farm was officially completed earlier this year, with an estimated £38 million community fund from the wind farm to support people in the nearby area over the course of 25 years.

This support aims to help people to take ownership of local buildings, develop tourism and recreation, and strengthen skills and resources to deliver a range of projects in the local community such as the purchase of a hotel and a bike track.

Dunaskin Doon Bowling Club has thankfully benefited from this.

A spokesperson for the club said: "The news we at Dunaskin have all been waiting for: with the help of the Dalmellington Parish Development Trust and others, we have secured bowling at Dunaskin for generations to come.

"The trust stepped in to push this over the line and has shown a real commitment to Dunaskin Doon Bowling Club.

"We must also mention our other contributors that made the purchase successful and without these companies, clubs and private individuals we would not have been able to make this happen.

"Thanks go to RES group Sclenteugh Windfarm, Knockippen Windfarm, Rankinston Bowling Club members, Alloway Bowling Club - Cambusdoon members and private donations through our paypal page who we shall be ever indebted too.

"Also the help and assistance recieved from councillors Drew Filson and Elaine Stewart. The trust members and committee for their commitment to the future of Dunaskin and Waterside. We appreciated it."

With the future secured, plans are now moving forward for the club to celebrate its 140 birthday.

A Dalmellington Parish Development Trust spokesperson added: "The Trust is delighted to announce that we have been successful in purchasing Dunaskin Doon Bowling Club, bringing this 140-year-old institution into community ownership securing it for the future.

"This has been made possible by the South Kyle Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund and is the first windfarm community benefit money spent in Dalmellington Parish."
