Plans are progressing for the installation of speed-calming measures on a busy road in Muirkirk.

Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA), on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, intends to install five new speed bumps on Glasgow Road in Muirkirk.

The council had been looking into the possibly of these measures in the past.

It's believed that the potential plans would see the speed bumps installed along the road, from its junction with the A70 Main Street, up towards Muirkirk Cemetery.

No indication has been given on when this work might be carried, but the public are able to submit objections to the proposals.

Objectors must state their reasons in writing to Head of Roads, Ayrshire Roads Alliance at  Opera House, 8, John Finnie Street, Kilmarnock, KA1 1DD  by Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

Speed restrictions along this road is something that many in the community have been calling for, for a long time.

One nearby resident said: "It's about time that something was done about this road.

"There are always cars and lorries flying up and down that road and doing well over 30mph.

"It's the old cliché, but I thought it would take somebody to get seriously hurt before something was done."

It's believed that other areas of Muirkirk are also being assessed for similar measures.

An Ayrshire Roads Alliance spokesperson previously said: "Once the public consultation has been concluded and no objections are received, we will progress with our proposals to install the speed cushions."
