A favourite Mauchline café and coffee shop is soon to close its doors due to rising bills.

The Mossgiel Snug at The Cross in Mauchline announced, via a statement, that it will be shutting up shop later this month because of "rocketing" costs.

Mossgiel Snug is the offspring of the popular Mossgiel Organic Farm on the outskirts of the town.

The shop will open for the final time on Saturday, July 29.

A team representative confirmed: "Since we threw the doors open, we’ve welcomed you to share in our passion for local and organic food.

"Through Covid lockdowns, a couple of Christmases and Holy Fairs with everything in -between – your support has been amazing and really appreciated

"The Snug was always to be an extension of our passion at the farm – to support small scale food producers, to enjoy serving comfort food to our local community and spread some organic love

"Sadly, with costs rocketing almost every day since we opened, we were facing having to charge £12+ for toasties, and coffees on the close side to a fiver, to keep the level of quality we wanted – which just wasn’t going to work."

They added: "It's really gutting to have to write this, and most certainly not what we wanted.

"It is, however, even more upsetting that so many of our Mossgiel team have put so many hours into the Snug for so long to bring our passion to life, and it hasn’t been sustainable.

"We’ll close our doors for the last time on Saturday 29th July, and we’d love to say bye before we go.

"Thank you so much for your support and for helping us achieve some amazing things, in particular the unbelievable three days you helped get goods to the refugees of Ukraine last February – that is a memory that we’ll remember forever.

"If you are a local business owner looking for some kick-ass new peeps for your team, we’ve got some awesome ones to put you in touch with."

The whole building where Mossgiel Snug resides could soon have completely new residents, as the neighbouring Many Thanks shop is also set to close, once a new owner for the building is found.

However, Many Thanks will continue beyond the sale of the shop.
