Police are looking into an incident they say is linked to the arrest of six youths in Cumnock at the weekend.

Six youths were arrested in Cumnock on Friday (July 7) night after police dealt with alleged instances of disorder.

Three male youths, aged 14, 15 and 17 were arrested in connection with the incident.

Around 9.15pm at The Square in Cumnock, officers responded to reports of disorder and a 14-year-old male, and 17-year-old female were arrested. 

Shortly afterwards, at a bus stop, officers arrested a 14-year-old female, also in connection with antisocial behaviour. 

Now police say they are looking into an incident involving a number of youths who tampered with a police vehicle.

Cops are looking to identify and track down those responsible.

A video surfaced on social media appearing to show a group of youths opening the back of a police van and allowing a passenger inside to escape.

It appeared as though the incident took place in the car park on Ayr Road in Cumnock, close to where numerous arrests had been made.

However, police say they are unaware of such a video.

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Enquiries remain ongoing into incidents of disorder in Cumnock, on Friday, July 7, 2023."
