A SERIES of new tournaments has made for an exciting start to the 2023 season at Lugar Bowling Club.

Since the season began at the start of May, players have been making the most of being able to get back out onto the grass.

The first torunament up was The Marley Trophy sponsored by Bert & Elizabeth Esquierdo.

There was a great turnout for the competition, with eventual winners Craig Mitchell, Sheila Valentine and Elise Murray defeating Derek Walker, Kyle Smith and Steven Rae in a great final.

Then it was onto the first edition of the a new May's Day tournament.

This was sponsored by Ronnie and Jill in memory of mum May.

Another great day saw Alex Baird and John Kelly defeating John Whiteford and Tammy Scott in a very close final.

Lugar Bowling Club then hosted the LP Plastering tournament, sponsored by Liam Prendergast.

A fine day's bowling saw Robbie Neil and Barbara McCulloch beating Davy Muncie and Mary McGhee.

Most recently, on Saturday, June 10, the club hosted the Alice Muir Memorial tournament, sponsored by Alice’s family.

The great weather saw a great turnout of 12 triples.

On another brilliant day of bowls, Alex Baird, Ronnie Kelly and Kerrie Haining defeated Derek Walker May Carson and Jim Hume in a very entertaining final.
