PLANS for the latest phase of a proposed housing development in Lugar have been lodged with council bosses – but they have already run in to opposition.

Applicant Rome Developments Ltd, of Nantwich, Cheshire, is seeking permission from East Ayrshire Council for 15 new homes on vacant land at the former Lugar Ironworks site, off Peesweep Brae.

Documents submitted with the application describe a mixture of one-and two-storey houses on the site.

However, the Ayrshire Roads Alliance says the application as it currently stands should be refused.

Cumnock Chronicle:

The roads authority has called for an improved layout to the planned development, with 5.5-metre carriageways and two-metre footways on each side of the roads at the site, as well as street lighting columns rather than illuminated bollards.

A separate application by the same developer for eight houses on the south-eastern corner of the former ironworks site, nearest Peesweep Brae itself, was approved by council officials in January.

The public can comment on the proposals now – go to eplanning.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/online and search for the application reference code 23/0244/PP.

A decision is expected by July 22.
