The future of the former Auchinleck Academy building depends on the outcome of a review of East Ayrshire's leisure services, members of the council's cabinet have heard.
Built in the early 1970s, the main school building has lain empty since pupils moved to the Robert Burns Academy at the Barony Campus in Cumnock in October 2020.
However, the leisure facilities, including the pool, gym halls and outdoor pitch are all currently still active.
East Ayrshire Council announced earlier this year that it would be carrying out a review of its leisure facilities across the area.

The review forms part of the local authority's 10-year capital investment programme, which will see building works to the value of almost £500 million carried out across the area.
As part of the council's Property Management Plan, properties are assessed against a set of criteria to determine how well the buildings are performing, and they are then categorised as Red, Amber or Green.
Auchinleck Academy was given an 'amber' rating.
At a meeting of the local authority's cabinet this week, Councillor Jim McMahon (SNP, Cumnock and New Cumnock) asked when the results of the leisure facilities review were likely to be published.
He was told it's hoped the review will be completed before the council's summer recess starts at the beginning of July.
