MSP Sharon Dowey has raised a motion in Parliament to commend a Cumnock legend for all the great work he's done locally.
Derek King was crowned the winner of the Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils (SALSC) award at the end of last year.
The award recognised the work put into the local community from a sporting point of view, which is something Ms Dowey was keen to pick up on.
Being a pillar of the Cumnock community for decades, Derek was certainly a worthy winner and deserving of it being motioned in Parliament.
The motion submitted by Ms Dowey reads: "That the Parliament commends Cumnock’s Derek King for his role in youth football; notes that Derek has played an active role within his community for over 29 years and is currently the coach for Cumnock Juniors Youth at Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise (CJCE)".
It also stands to add acknowledgement that "Derek also works in partnership with East Ayrshire’s Vibrant Communities to deliver an all-ability sport and cycling session, and successfully launched its all-ability cycling programme in March 2022."
It adds: "Derek picked up an award for Scottish Association of Local Sports Council (SALSC) Service to Sport at the East-Ayrshire Sports Council Awards held in November 2022".
The motion also wished to highlight Derek's great work supporting walking football in Cumnock, as well as his endeavours for youth football in the area.
