The owner of a new café in Auchinleck insists she will take her time to make the business a success by tapping into a gap in the market.

Maggie Boyd took over the premises on Main Street after the former Wee Bakers had gone on the market.

After officially getting the keys to shop in November, and adding her own touches to it, Maggie's opened last week on Thursday, February 8.

The shop will currently be selling hot and cold pies, filled rolls and breakfast.

Maggie already has ideas about how she wants to move forward in the future, but ensures that she will be patient to get things right.

Maggie told the Chronicle: "I've got plans about how I want to refurbish the baking area of the shop and introduce chips and meal prep and things in the future, but I don't want to do too much too soon.

"I'll go slow and maybe introduce something new every week, because this is obviously a new game for me.

"I'll wait until things calm down a wee bit and then we'll progress from there".

Having a background as a business analyst, as well as being a part-time army reserve, Maggie said this opportunity was too good to miss, with big plans already.

"In the future I'd like to start opening at the weekends and in the evenings, and give people the choice of things like burgers and chips and stuff like that," Maggie added.

"I think that could be something that is a bit of a gap in the market around here.

"I'm trying to keep it as cheap and cheerful as I can and think about the parents that are maybe coming home after their work and they don't have the energy to make a full meal or things like that.

"It'll be challenging until we find out what's what, but I'm looking forward to how things go".
