Mauchline residents look set to get their wish as a speed sign entering the town could soon be moved.
Councillor Linda Holland has said she is confident that the sign will be moved, after residents raised their concerns to her.
People living in the newly-built Hillhead Heights just as you leave the town towards Kilmarnock were concerned by the fact that a 30mph speed sign is located beyond the new houses.
Residents, along with the help of Cllr Holland and MSP Carol Mochan, have been pushing to have the sign moved to the outskirts of the town, so cars are already slowed down by the time they pass the houses.
Now it seems like those plans are one step closer to being passed.
Cllr Holland announced at a Mauchline Community Council meeting on Thursday night (December 1) that AMEY have approved the move, and that just a final official sign-off from Transport Scotland is required before the change can happen.
Although not taking anything for granted, the Ballochmyle councillor is positive about the chances of final approval coming through, having been campaigning since before she was elected back in May.
"Transport Scotland still need to give it 100 per cent approval, but AMEY were confident that they would do this, and we are just waiting on their final go ahead," Cllr Holland said.
"I have been dealing with this since becoming elected, and we hope Transport Scotland supports the people of Mauchline in getting this work done.
"I am confident that they will support the work being done, but I would never assume anything until we hear officially. Like everything, it takes time to dot I’s and cross T’s.
"I began chasing this up before I was elected alongside Carol Mochan MSP, as we were asked to by residents whilst out campaigning.
"I basically continued the fight after I was elected, by contacting AMEY on several occasions, and passing on concerns from residents, as I was then contacted by a few more residents of Hillhead Heights and surrounding streets.".
No official timeframe has been given to Cllr Holland about when a final decision might be made by Transport Scotland.
