CUMNOCK boss Brian McGinty admitted he was far from happy despite watching his team seize top spot in the West of Scotland Football League Premier Division on Saturday.
Jordan Moore’s second-half double secured a 2-0 win over newly-promoted Cambuslang Rangers at Townhead Park – leaving McGinty’s men as the only team in the top flight with a 100 per cent record after the first two rounds of fixtures.
But the Nock gaffer couldn’t hide his disappointment at the team’s showing on Saturday after the high of the previous week’s victory away to reigning champions Darvel.
Speaking to the club’s own YouTube channel after the match, McGinty said: “I thought we were dreadful. It was a really, really poor performance coming off the high of last week.
“I’m not questioning the attitude, I just think we played terribly. We didn’t take care of the ball and gave it away.
“Everything was 100mph and there was no composure on the ball.
“The boys found a way to win in the second-half with Jordan grabbing a couple of goals.
“I don’t think there’s a doubt we deserved it [the win] but overall it was just a poor performance.”
“I thought we were dreadful. I thought it was a really really poor performance coming off the high of last week.
“We’ve got a good group here, so there’s no question about their attitude or anything. I just thought we played really badly.
“We said to them at the start of the season that there’ll be games you don’t play well but if you can find a way to win somehow.
“Jordan scores two very good goals and could have had a couple more. I don’t think there’s any doubt we deserved it but I just thought it was a poor performance.
“When you’ve got someone like Jordan in the team it only takes a couple of chances and the game’s away from Cambuslang.
“Was it his best performance today? No. But he’s in the team to score goals and his two finishes were excellent.”

In the second
econd half we did eventually find - obnviously Jordan scores two very good goals and could have had a couple more. I don’t think there’s any doubt we deserved it but I just thought it was a poor performance.
We didn’t take care of the ball, we gave the ball away too slack. Everything was a hundred miles an hour, there was no composure on the ball, we allowed ourselves to get invovled with a couple of things that happened. First half especially I thought we were dreadful. Second half slightly better, but I still wasn’t pleased, and I thinkg the boys know that. We’ve got an honest group and I think we know. We said to them at the startof the season that there’ll be games you don’t play well but if tyou can find a way to win somehow. We made a change just into the second half and changed the shape a wee bit, went three up top. Did I think it made a great dela of difference? Not really. I thiought we were a wee bit better on the ball second half, we kept the ball a bit better and moved it a bit better. Maybe the three up top gave us a wee bit mjore width, with James coming on and Jamie staying wide caused them a few more problems, but again when you’ve got someone like Jordan in the team it only takes a couple of chances and the game’s away from Cambuslang. Was it his best performance today? No. Biut he’s in the team to score goals and his two finishes were excellent.
Auchinleck Talbot suffered an early season setback at the hands of reigning league champions Darvel at Beechwood which sees both sides start the season with a 50/50 record.
Gareth Armstrong’s red card five minutes before the break proved the pivotal moment as the visitors ran out 3-0 winners - leaving both sides in mid-table and adrift of the early Premier Division pace-setters.
The first half was fairly evenly matched, but Armstrong’s straight red – for a lunging challenge on Darvel’s Allan McKenzie – was quickly seized upon by the visitors, who took the lead through Darryl Meggatt who poked the ball home after he won the ball in the air from an Andy Stirling corner.
Talbot’s misery was compounded in first-half injury time when the visitors extended their lead when McKenzie managed to turn the ball past Andy Leishman.
Tommy Sloan’s men saw their bad luck continue after the interval when Graeme Wilson’s spot kick was saved by Chris Truesdale – and the visitors again made Talbot pay within a matter of minutes, when Stirling thundered a drive into the net off the underside of the bar to put the icing on the cake of a dominant display for the visitors.
A short distance down the road, though, it was all smiles for Cumnock, who sit proudly at the top of the Premier Division standings after following up their opening-day win at Darvel with a 2-0 home victory over Cambuslang Rangers.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Glenafton Athletic kept their unbeaten league start intact thanks to a 1-0 victory at Loch Park over Arthurlie with Hugh Kerr scoring the only goal of the game.
Prior to kick-off the clubs observed a minute’s silence in memory of former Glenafton player Adam Strachan, who died aged 35 on July 9.
Strachan was on Glens’ books during the 2014-15 campaign before signing for East Kilbride in June 2015.
All three local sides are away from home this week with Cumnock visiting Hurlford, Glenafton travelling to Pollok and Talbot hitting the road to take on Cambuslang.
