Throughout the year, Lochlan has continued on his quest to gain more awareness of the difficulties posed by Type 1 diabetes, especially in football.

In recent weeks, Lochlan and the charity’s focus has been on providing support for people who need Type 1 diabetes supplies in Ukraine and in the refugee camps in Poland.

Lochlan has immersed himself in the work of helping people in Ukraine and hasn’t had the chance to take stock and realise the great work he has been doing.

The youngster is keen to keep his feet on the ground and ensure he can continuing helping as many people as he can.

Mum Lesley says she can’t believe how level headed Lochan is for someone so young – but she believes that all he has been through has allowed him to mature and she thinks he deserves all the credit he gets.

She said: “I feel like I say this almost every week, and that’s because it’s true, but the work that Lochlan puts in makes us all so proud.

“You wouldn’t believe he’s so young if you just met him because he’s achieved so much in such a short space of time and he’s always so grounded about what he’s doing.

“He never takes a moment to think about how much he’s helped people. He’s just focused on what he can do next or watching the news to see if there’s anyone he can support.”

Now in its 16th year, the awards highlight the triumphs of young people in a range of categories – from sport and the environment to enterprise and volunteering – and shine a light on the invaluable contributions made by remarkable young people across Scotland.

Lesley added: “We’ve never been at anything remotely like this before so it will be great to be involved in something like this.

“I think it will be good for Lochlan as well to see other youngsters there who are also doing some extraordinary

things.”
