New Cumnock Development Trust (NCDT) have launched a new scheme in the area to try and create sustainability in the area.

ReNew Cumnock is the name for New Cumnock Development Trust’s new pilot project, which will see the development of a Re-use Hub in the heart of New Cumnock that operates as a viable social enterprise, developing skills and creating sustainable jobs, whilst also acting as a welcoming space where the community can come together.

Reuse Hubs around the world are helping people to counter the throwaway culture, reduce waste, maintain skills and grow employment in communities.

ReNew Cumnock is starting out as a short term pilot project and is funded by UK Community Renewal Fund, through East Ayrshire Council.

To kick off the project, NCDT are looking to develop a high quality second hand clothing stream.

Donations can be dropped off at 21 Castle, New Cumnock. Anything NCDT manages to resale will provide vital funds to be poured back in to the New Cumnock Community.

Donations can be dropped off until March 25, where the next stage of the project will be decided.

A representative for NCDT said: “We will be holding a series of events where you can find out more about how to repair/remake your unwanted items as well as a series of workshops where you can learn new repair skills.

“To make this happen NCDT is currently looking to recruit a part time Project Coordinator and Repair Technicians to deliver a series of workshops for local people wanting to learn new skills. We are also looking for local people who would be happy to volunteer to share their repair skills. It is hoped that the workshops will commence in April 2022.”
