A CONSERVATIVE candidate in this May’s East Ayrshire Council election has said that more needs to be done to fix a problem Cumnock street.
Neill Watts voiced his concern about the condition of some roads in the town – in particular, the Holmhead Road and Templand Drive area.
After reporting the issue to Ayrshire Roads Alliance, a team were quickly on hand to patch up the issue.
However, Mr Watts believes more than this needs to be done to sort the issue.
Neill Watts, who is standing for the party in the Cumnock and New Cumnock ward in the May 5 poll, believes that a complete overhaul of the road surface needs to take place, or there will be a risk of similar issues happening in the future.
He said: “Ayrshire Roads Alliance has filled in the Pothole on the Junction with Templand Drive and Holmhead Road.
“As you can see, they have plonked some tarmac in the large deep holes, as can be seen on the highlighted red section on the photos.

“However the road surface is still extremely uneven, covered with a patchwork of repairs over the years.
“They even missed a small pothole in yellow on the photo.
“I shall report this section again to Ayrshire Roads Alliance. This area is in desperate need of complete resurfacing.”
When asked if the road was in line for a complete resurfacing, an Ayrshire Roads Alliance spokesperson said: “The Ayrshire Roads Alliance can confirm that this road is not currently on the improvement programme.
“However, the Alliance is currently reviewing the capital/revenue patching programme for 22/23, subject to cabinet approval, and will ensure the overall condition of the road is assessed as part of this process.
“The Alliance would also like to remind residents that any road defects should be reported through the Ayrshire Roads Alliance website.”
