Cumnock's Glaisnock Street will not be returning to its usual two-way system any time soon.

A Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is in place on the street until April 4, 2022, meaning it will remain one-way.

However, officials have said that the TTRO will have to extended beyond that point, because work is not scheduled to start on the faulty building that closed the road until next month.

The road originally fully closed all the way back in October due to a 'collapsed wall'.

An East Ayrshire Council spokesperson at the time said work was being done to get the road reopened "as soon as it is safe to do so."

A few weeks later, in November, a one-way system was put in place on the road, to save drivers having to divert around Cumnock.

An Ayrshire Roads Alliance spokesperson, on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, said that the council would "work with the owner of the building to address a longer term repair."

Then, in January, a spokesperson confirmed that the works would continue for "a few more months".

Now officials have confirmed that current plans in place will have to be extended beyond their current end date.

An Ayrshire Raods Alliance spokesperson, on behalf of East Ayrshire Council, confirmed: "The existing Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is in place until 4 April 2022 and will require to be extended as works are not commencing on site until 7 March 2022 at the earliest.

"An application will be made to extend the TTRO nearer the time and we will then be in a better position to give a more accurate road opening date."
