A CHARITY hero has retired after 35 years of fund-raising for one of Ayrshire’s best-known good causes.

Barbara Houston has been a huge supporter of Ayrshire Hospice over the years and has got involved in a range of activities.

She was the manager of the charity’s Cumnock shop when it first opened its doors, and has also served as the convener of the hospice’s New Cumnock Friends Group and as the charity’s collection can co-ordinator.

Though her days at the charity’s fund-raising HQ are now at an end, Barbara will still be lending her support as a local volunteer – albeit perhaps not to the same scale as before.

An Ayrshire Hospice spokesperson said: “Barbara will be greatly missed at the fundraising office but we are delighted to hear she will continue to volunteer at our Cumnock shop once a week.

“Thank you Barbara for all your hard work, drive and passion over the years.

"We hope you enjoy your retirement!”
