A CUMNOCK charity has celebrated the 100th anniversary of the creation of insulin with their star man featuring in a powerful STV news feature.
Lochlan’s Legacy, headed up by schoolboy Lochlan Murdoch, aims to improve people’s understanding of diabetes, particularly in football, by providing training to coaches and other senior staff at clubs across the country.
Since its creation the charity has received positive attention from all over the country, with stars from the footballing world taking up ambassador roles within the charity.
That meant was only fitting that young Lochlan was the main star of an STV feature talking about his journey and where he sees it going next.
Lochlan’s mum, Lesley, is delighted to see where the charity is headed, and she can’t contain the excitement of her son, who is ecstatic about the work being done.
They received a £10,000 National Lottery funds boost which will help towards their work this year.
Lesley told the Chronicle: “To be the charity that celebrated the 100th anniversary of insulin was incredible, obviously because of how important that is for everything the charity is about.
“Lochlan is just so delighted with all the support he’s had and continues to have.
“The funding we got will go a long way to helping with what we want to achieve this year, so we’re so grateful for that.”
Dundee footballer Paul McMullan is one of the ambassadors for the charity, and with Lochlan being a massive football fan, he can’t believe the support he’s had.
Lesley continued: “Paul was more than happy to get involved and pushing what we’re trying to do.
“Lochlan was really proud of himself when he saw it on the television as well.
“He understands the importance of getting the word out there for the charity so he’s delighted.
“Paul is such a good role model for anyone living with the condition, so he’s a great ambassador to have, because he speaks quite openly about how difficult it can be some of the time.”
The charity had their own hoodies created as well in partnership with OFFXSPRINGZ, while Kilmarnock players Oli Shaw and Chris Stokes were keen to get involved as well.
With Lochlan being a huge Kilmarnock supporter, he was beside himself with this support as well.
Lesley continued: “He really couldn’t believe it when I showed him the images of Chris Stokes and Oli Shaw in the new hoodies.
“He’s a massive Killie fan so this was beyond his wildest dreams.
“The hoodies sold out straight away, so that’s something else we can build on and hope to achieve more with.”
