Organisers behind Mauchline Holy Fair have been busy fundraising and handing out special prizes to community members as they wait with bated breath to see if the event will go ahead this year.
Following the emergence of Omicron, the committee is hoping plans for their May fun day will not be scuppered, and are continuing in the meantime to work with local stores and keep momentum going for when the event hopefully rolls round.
Hazel Cousar from Mauchline was one of the winners lucky enough to bag herself a bumper hamper full of goodies along with Fraser McDonald from Cumnock who won £100.
Margaret Paton, chief fundraiser, said: “We are still struggling to raise funds for the Holy Fair so we have run a couple of initiatives including a raffle and a fabulous hamper which we went above and beyond with. The Coop contributed to it, too.
“Everything is slow. We’re just waiting to hear from East Ayrshire Council to see if they’ll approve the Holy Fair going ahead. We hope it will happen in some sort of format. The committee want it to run the way it normally does. It’s normally a really good day and the village is buzzing. The footfall we have is usually between 12-14,00.
“We should know by the end of this month.”
