Heartwarming tributes have poured in for a Cumnock legend who sadly passed away on Christmas Eve.
Jim ‘Buller’ Reid was well known for his charity work, after dinner speeches and earnest support of sports clubs, from indoor bowling to football, across Ayrshire.
Described as “Mr Cumnock” and “one of life’s good guys” who “always stole the show”, Jim was also a dedicated family man, and leaves behind a wife, children and grandchildren.
Jim’s daughter, Kirsty Reid, told the Chronicle: “We are all heartbroken of the passing of our dad, husband, papa, brother and friend. Our dad was a huge personality. Our dad was Mr Cumnock.
“He did a lot for Cumnock and surrounding areas and gave his time to raise lots of money for numerous charities. He was a family man and we were all his world.
“Our dad touched a lot of people’s heart’s and I’m sure everyone who knew him will have a story or a joke to tell.”
She continued: “We would like to thank everyone for there kind wishes, cards,messages, visits all very kind.
“When you see all the tributes on social media it’s clear to see what a genuine person our dad was and how he has impacted on people’s lives.
“He was our dad, papa and husband but he knew he was our hero. And there will only ever be one Buller Reid.”
A spokesperson for Cumnock Juniors FC said: “Buller was one of life’s good guys and will be missed sorely by everyone who was lucky enough to meet him.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Jessie and all the family at this incredibly difficult time.”
Cumnock Bowling Club echoed the sentiment, saying: “Cumnock Bowling Club would like to pass on our sincerest condolences to the Reid family on the passing of Jim Buller Reid.
“A good friend and entertainer of all at Cumnock Bowling Club. He will be sorely missed. RIP Buller - heaven has gained a legend.”
A spokesperson for Muirkirk Junior FC said: “It is with sadness the news of the passing of Jim “Buller” Reid has reached our club.
“Buller was part of many of our fundraising events over the years and always stole the show no matter who appeared beside him.
“He will be sadly missed but always fondly remembered.
Our thoughts are with Jessie and his extended family at this time. You were simply the best big man. Rest easy.”
Auchinleck Outdoor Bowling Club added: “Buller was a great friend of the club and served the club well as the main attraction for the Old Folks Christmas Party.
“Not only will he be sorely missed by all at Auchinleck Outdoor but by all in the wider community.”
