PUPILS at Doon Academy have taken part in a unique boxing programme which has helped motivate them in all aspects of their learning, as well as improving their physical and mental wellbeing.
For the past four weeks, a group of S4 students have been working with Skills and Learning 33 (SL33), an innovative project in East Ayrshire which aims to boost employability, on a Box Clever programme alongside school teacher, Mr Steven Kelly.
Pupils have been developing their boxing skills along with their confidence and resilience - and have had a whale of a time doing so.
Steven explained: “The programme is being delivered by Derek Simpson and Ewin Murray from SL33, which is our new Employability and Skills Hub, based at 33 Titchfield Street, Kilmarnock.
“The aim of the weekly sessions is to engage and motivate our S4 learners through the vehicle of boxing fitness sessions. The impact has been outstanding and has transcended positively into other areas of the school curriculum.
“Derek and Ewin have been effective role models for the youngsters and helped educate them in various aspects of personal health and fitness.
“The sessions have literally been a knockout and Doon Academy are really grateful for the opportunity to further inspire our learners.”
