A CHRISTMAS market rocked up in Cumnock this week and proved a massive hit with residents, with organisers recording great attendance and more than 100 free presents being presented to kids.
Shoppers flocked to Cumnock Town Hall where they were able to browse a wide selection of potential gifts such as craft ornaments, decorations and candles on Friday, December 10.
Stalls, sweets and surprises were in store for both kids and adults alike, and Da Vinci’s Café satisfied those festive cravings by supplying delicious food and drink.
For the believers among us, Father Christmas made a special appearance, and it was widely acknowledged that there were lots going on to suit the whole family.
Speaking before the event, Lexy Scott, organiser, said: “There will be different stalls so we have floristry, wreaths, photography, a craft company doing different craft ornaments, decorations and candles and a gift company doing sweet stuff.
“There will also be wee ideas for kids, the body shop, bags and jewellery.
“Release Ayrshire, the mental health charity, will be there fundraising for their raffle, too, so we’ll be supporting them.
“Santa will be there but unfortunately all the spots are filled for Santa visits. Parents can still bring their kids, though.”
She added: “It’s just a community event to get people involved in for Christmas.
“The money raised will go towards paying for the hall, Christmas presents for kids or donated to Release Ayrshire.”
The event was very well attended and, as aforementioned, more than 100 free presents were given out to youngsters, much to their delight.
The cartoon picture stall was a particular favourite, and plenty of kids went home with a fun, quirky caricature of themselves created by artist Neil G. Smith.
The portraits are sure to make a fun, memorable gift for mums and dads.
Lexy added: “Our stalls were fantastic and everyone enjoyed the market.”
Meanwhile, Cumnock’s Christmas preparations are set to gather pace this weekend with a winter festival lighting up Cumnock Town Hall this Saturday, December 18, while there’s also a ‘candy cane trail’ at the Baird Institute until Saturday.
