Glaisnock Street in Cumnock has closed this afternoon due to a 'collapsed wall'.
The street is currently shut off to both pedestrians and vehicles.
It is not yet known when the street will reopen.
An East Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: "During the final phases of demolition works on Glaisnock Street, some high level stonework adjoining the pub premises (which was being taken down by hand) became unstable and collapsed, falling on the footpath and road.
"The pavement and road have been temporarily closed to allow debris to be cleared and a detailed assessment of the remaining demolition works to be undertaken.
"We are working closely with our Contract Administrator, Structural Engineer, Health & Safety Section and Ayrshire Roads Alliance to rectify the situation and get the pavement and road re-opened as soon as it is safe to do so."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of collapsed wall on Glaisnock Street in Cumnock around 1.45pm on Tuesday, 12 October.
“The area has been cordoned off as a precaution and East Ayrshire Council are aware.”
More on this as we get it.
