A CATRINE musician is taking Ayrshire to the big screen after having one of her songs featured in a new movie starring top British actor Alex Pettyfer – and directed by one of her childhood friends.
Vivien Scotson says she is “delighted” that her song, ‘Broken Love’, will be played in Collection – a thriller in which the Stormbreaker and Beastly heart throb takes the lead role.
And the 40-year-old, originally from Sutherland, goes way back with the film’s director, Scottish filmmaker, director and actress, Marianna Palka, who she reconnected with during the process.
Vivien told the Chronicle: “Just over a year ago, Marianna emailed me saying that her and the producers wanted to use my song “Broken Love” in this movie, so I agreed.
“Marianna left Scotland when she was 17, to study acting, and later moved to L.A. Our lives seemed like polar opposites, whilst Marianna thrives in the American world of film and theatre, I enjoyed a quieter life of becoming a young mother to my daughter Ellie.
“I’ve always missed Marianna since she moved away, so it feels very special to be part of this movie and a part of her life in that way.”
Vivien revealed: “I was approached by a New York music producer at the end of last year, and we’ve been quietly producing some new music together.
“We will release these songs once they are all finished. I can’t say who it is for now, but I can say that he’s relaunched his famous New York label again recently, and has recently been working with another Scottish music act.”
Vivien now hopes to begin offering songwriting workshops to kids in the area.
She added: “Some of my friends wrongly presume due to my song being in a movie, that I must have loads of money now. The reality couldn’t be further from the truth.
“I have an idea of taking on the lease of a village shop here in Catrine, to offer free, short songwriting workshops for local kids.
“I’m talking to Business Gateway about it just now, and am hoping I can join up with another local community project that may wish to share the shop space."
‘Broken Love’ is available on iTunes, Spotify, Band Camp and via www.vivienscotson.co.uk.
