Clark’s Little Ark, a family-run animal shelter based in Sanquhar, has unveiled a new play area on the grounds of the shelter which will make a day out for kids even more enjoyable.
The P-ARK will provide sand, sea and hopefully a bit of sun to youngsters on their visit. The area has been made as accessible as possible with wheelchair access and a raised sand pit.
Home to endearing animals such as miniature Shetland ponies and donkeys, the Ark has become a firm family favourite over the years and the latest expansion is sure to further complement that.
Owner Alison Shankly said: “Over a year ago The Friends of Clark’s Little Ark successfully applied for a grant from Whiteside Hill Windfarm Community Fund. Due to COVID-19, an extension was granted for the work and this year JMC Contracts & Supplies worked flat out building the new area. Jimmy had the idea of an Ark/boat theme and it is brilliant.
“The boat and wigwam made by HMP Dumfries have also been incorporated into the new area. We even have our own special flag thanks to Nith Valley Embroidery.”
She continued: “The humans have also worked extremely long and hard to have things ready and all their help is greatly appreciated.
“The grant also covered fencing around the play area and thanks to William Moore Fencing there is a secure fence and gate around the play area too.
“We are hoping to add some new benches including one that is accessible to wheelchairs to the area above and beside the P-ARK so that on a nice day visitors can enjoy the lovely views. At this time there is still some work to be done on the track leading up the back, but thanks to the money received from Kelloholm Co-op Community Fund, a start has been made on improving the surfaces.”
Both humans and animals at the Ark are also aiming to walk 500 miles in 15 days between June 29 and July 12 in the hopes of raising £500 to cover running costs of the shelter and ensure it remains free to visitors.
