A BAND that has been running for almost seventy years has had to to disband after it failed to attract new members.
The Muirkirk and District Pipe Band have disbanded despite their best efforts to attract new members over the last two years.
The band was originally started in 1948 as the 1st Muirkirk Boys Brigade under the guidance of Pipe Major Davie Hendry.
In 1982 the Parents Committee was formed to help with acquiring uniforms for the band.
The following year the band took part in the 100th anniversary of its founder, William Alexander Smith, playing at events at Ibrox and Fir Park.
In 1999 the band changed its name to the Muirkirk and District Pipe Band as a way of opening up membership to both male and female members.
Over the last 16 years, the bands strength lead to them competing in the RSPBA events with some considerable success.
Current Pipe Major, Craig Mitchell and all members would like to thank everyone who has supported the band over the years.
