Firefighters remain at the scene of a blaze which had reduced a former school to a shell.
Two appliances were initially deployed to Muirkirk Primary School at 2.50am on Thursday, following a 999 call.
The crews, from Douglas and Muirkirk, were soon joined by another from Cumnock as they battled to put the fire out.
At its height, 15 around personnel from Scottish Fire and Rescue were at the scene, where multiple hose pipe jets were trained on the outbreak.
There were no evacuations or rescue operations required, and there was no threat to any nearby properties.
By 5am, the fire was under control, but firefighters remained at the scene for most of Thursday to carry out dampening down procedures, to prevent any possible re-ignition happening.
Building control officers await the all clear from the fire brigade, after which a decision will be made on further action.
It is understood the building has been completely destroyed and investigations into the cause are underway
